In this video, Northamptonshire Police Chief Constable Nick Adderley explains why we will be the first police force in the country to arm all of our front-line officers with Tasers.
It shouldn’t be necessary, but I absolutely support the Northants Police Chief Constable on this, provided any use is a last resort. The loss of thousands of officers to cuts over the last ten years has seen crime and violence soar, tasers will help keep officers safe, but only a real terms investment in police officer and staff numbers will keep the public safe, which MUST be addressed.
After taking some time out last week with family recharging the batteries, I’m back in the game. 🔌🔋👍 - I am catching up on a few bits, as ever there’s lots of stuff to do and I’ll be responding to any necessary messages & correspondence imminently. Have a great day peeps. Gareth ✌️
From the creators of Universal Credit - this would be yet another horrible policy that discriminates against working class people who don't have the means to retire early, and don't live as long in retirement. The Tories want you to work till you drop! ⚰️ - here’s an idea 💡 let’s drop them! 🗳👋
Cabinet secretary urged to investigate whether film of new Prime Minister breaches strict rules on political neutrality. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♀️😡
You might recognise this amazing lady from our canvassing photos with Northampton South Labour Party - no doubt she'll be knocking on your door soon 💪 Amy is an incredible person and she exemplifies exactly what our movement is all about ❤🌷
More parking charge increases proposed, this time from Northamptonshire County Council for on-street parking. Hard to see how this cannot hurt the Town Centre further...what do you think? 🤔❓ Have your say on the changes 👉 https://northamptonshire.citizenspace.com/bipm/northampton-town-centre-parking-proposals-2019/
Here is an update on this 👉 https://www.facebook.com/625007417657121/posts/1307510022740187?sfns=mo We need to get the Town Centre Masterplan 100% right, with all political parties working together, whilst ensuring maximum citizen participation in a transparent democratic process. This next stage is therefore crucial.
We need to get the Town Centre Masterplan 100% right, with all political parties working together, whilst ensuring maximum citizen participation in a transparent democratic process. This next stage is therefore crucial...but we need to ask why only 742 people engaged in the first part of the process?
Rail fares going up another 2.9% 🤬 That's a 49% increase since 2009! Labour will take back control of OUR railways! All rail fares will go back into the service, not into the pockets of shareholders! ✊🌹
Asda workers across the country are receiving letters from bosses saying they’ll be sacked in 12 weeks’ time unless they sign a punishing new contract. This is totally unacceptable and I offer my full support and solidarity to this workforce and the GMB Union. Agree? The expected funding gap for Northamptonshire County Council in 2020/21 has increased by £23.7million in just six months. The significant funding gap now stands at a whopping £34.9million, but in February it had been £11.2million...even more savage cuts to follow, unless we get a new government and a new financial settlement for our local councils.
Between April and June 2019 town centre recorded footfall had fallen in Northampton by 729,449 in comparison with 2018 figures. Councillor Gareth Eales (Lab, Spencer) said: “The figures are a concern, but to some extent it’s not really surprising. "There are a multitude of factors that are aiding the decline of our town centre, the super-size retail experience of both Milton Keynes and Rushden Lakes, the loss of certain big retailers over the last twelve months, increases in parking charges and reduced bus services can only assist a reduction in foot-fall. "Imagine how much more of a reduction we would have seen without the new university campus? This only makes the need to get the so-called 'Town Centre Masterplan' 100 per cent right, with all political parties working together, whilst ensuring maximum citizen participation in a transparent democratic process.”
Gareth Eales said: "From speaking to people for only half an hour, there is huge anger and concern about this. So many people now feel cut off, as a bus service is some peoples only form of transport. I was flattered to be asked to help the community to campaign for a resolution. The public meeting is essential, as if there is to be any degree of success, we need people to work with us."
📺 WATCH: BUS SERVICES 🚌 - many people are concerned about declining bus services, especially those affected by changes to Service 16. A public meeting is taking place on that 👉tinyurl.com/y2qr4s3v - Northampton needs better buses, if we are serious about tackling the Climate Emergency 🌍🆘

Myself and our local Labour Party volunteers have just completed four days of activity around Kings Heath, speaking and listening to residents. We've had loads of really nice conversations and spoke to hundreds of people. 👀LOOK OUT for a 🎥VIDEO dropping on this later tonight...🍿
Another belter of a canvass session with Northampton South Labour Party in Kings Heath. Some really nice conversations with residents and more casework to be getting on with. And yet again we’ve heard there is a real appetite to deliver an MP with passion & local roots 👍 - more sessions lined up for tomorrow 🌹✌️
Another two absolutely fantastic campaigning sessions today in Kings Heath. Again loads of casework picked up and lots of love for delivering a born & bred Labour MP for Northampton South. Back again tomorrow 😍
An auditor investigating the botched £10.25million loan to the Cobblers says he doesn’t expect his work to be finished until October or November at the earliest.
Some of today’s fly-tipping that have been reported 🚮🚫 I have also requested that an urgent deep cleanse of the streets of Kings Heath please take place. There are literally too many streets to list, as there is litter everywhere. Also - Park Square around the shops is looking very sorry for itself...so I’ve asked for that to be tidied up too. Gareth ✌️
Please see some photos of some extremely overhanging and overgrown trees around East Oval, Kings Heath. Also see the damaged pathways as a result of these trees. 🔍 I have asked that these trees be cut back urgently and that the paths get urgent inspection / attention. Gareth ✌️
A good canvassing session today in Kings Heath today. Lots of positive conversations and got lots of casework. I’ll be focusing on this estate over the coming few days, speaking to as many residents as possible, picking up as many issues as possible. 👍🌹
Wow! Another stunning canvassing session this time in Kings Heath with our happy bunch of activists from Northampton South Labour Party. Lots of positive conversations and got lots of casework too. Have a great Sunday all 🌹😊✌️
A fantastic community event, I was really impressed with the work Cllr. Emma Roberts - Delapre & Briar Hill and the Community Team from NBC had done. Well done all 👏👏
📺 WATCH: GOOD LUCK COBBLERS ⚽️👞🤞- I hope the team have a great season, good luck lads 👍. Off the field, I also hope the East Stand issue gets resolved 🏗 and that justice for our MISSING £10.25 MILLION LOAN 💸gets served quickly. ⚖️🚨 - Gareth
Thank you to everyone who spoke to us last night around Bouverie and Elizabeth Walk. We had some really constructive conversations with plenty for us to take away and work on. We reported all the flytipping we found, let us know if it doesn't get collected swiftly - we'll be back soon ❤🌹
Shock horror! - the NCC Saints Hospitality Box scandal has been whitewashed.
This is simply wrong - any elected member should be able to access any information. Makes you wonder what they’ve got to hide doesn’t it?
Lots of police presence in St James tonight. Let’s hope everyone is safe.
Northamptonshire in the national news again.
Cllr. Danielle Stone (Labour, Abington and Phippsville), says, “Enough is enough. The leader of the council must step down. This is a failed authority. We should have fresh elections so that we can sweep them out. They cannot manage money. They cannot manage services. The OFSTED report is absolutely damning. We need urgent action to protect our children, to support our families, to look after our front line staff”. Cllr. Jane Birch (Labour, Kingsthorpe South, shadow portfolio for children’s services), says, “I am shocked and deeply hurt, but not surprised, by the judgement in this report. Our children deserve the very best we can give. Yet they have been made extremely vulnerable through years and years of mismanagement by an administration with the wrong priorities. A children’s trust, more outsourcing, is not the answer. We need to create locality working. We need community hubs staffed by well- paid permanent staff, working in partnership with the voluntary sector in each neighbourhood. I want all our children brought back into the county, where it is safe to do so. I want to see an end to supported housing for 16 -18 year olds. We should be developing a more protective supported lodgings service and we need to attract more in- house foster parents. Above all, we need to invest immediately in preventative services and early help services.”
📺 WATCH: BORIS JOHNSON'S POLICE PLEDGE 🚔 - it is nothing more than a clever trick, but he isn't fooling anyone. The Tories have cut 21,000 officers since 2010 👮♀️👮♂️✂️, which he consistently voted for and are set to lose 20,000 officers naturally over the next three years! We need a real terms increase in officers, as your MP I will fight for that. Gareth.
More problems for Tory led Northamptonshire County Council - Ofsted's latest inspection of the authority's children's services department has rated it as "inadequate" - our children are being failed. Full report here 👉: https://files.api.ofsted.gov.uk/v1/file/50096453
In its excitement to report Boris Johnson’s plan to recruit 20,000 Police Officers BBC Breakfast forgot to mention his party has actually cut 21,000 Police Officers since 2010, halved Police funding & stretched resources to breaking point! Please Share if you think that was a big omission
🎙📻 Catch me tomorrow morning on the BBC Radio Northampton breakfast show ☕️ - talking about the last week in the world of politics and where we go from here. Give it a listen just after 8am - 104.2FM and 103.6FM. Gareth ✌️
Shame the rain has impacted upon the Kings Heath Fun Day ☔️👎 - still a valiant effort on the part of all involved to salvage a nice community event, mostly indoors at the Community Centre. Councillor Terrie Eales and myself had some nice conversations with local people and picked up some casework. Every cloud and all that...✌️
